Braddan Commissioners has come a long way since we held our first Parish Day on The Roundhouse site back in 2013, when it was just an empty field and a new community centre was a distant dream.
Our inaugural Community Day was a little more low key than past Parish Days, but the sun shone on The Roundhouse and it proved to be a hit, with lots of families coming out to support the event throughout the day.
An eclectic mix of free activities was pulled together for ages 0-100 including:-
- Inflatables on the village green
- All-day soft play sessions inside the building
- Traditional sports day races (think egg & spoon, skipping, and parent races), with prizes sponsored by Conister Bank Ltd
- Pickleball taster sessions in the sports hall
We were also lucky to partner with a number of brilliant organisations who provided even more free entertainment and experiences, including:
- Axe Throwing with the Manx Academies of Arms, Armour and Defensive Arts – a hit with both kids and adults!
- Paracise session led by Donna
- A Reminisce and Nostalgia corner hosted by Live at Home, featuring vintage photos and memory-sharing objects
- Football and basketball sessions in the sports hall courtesy of Let’s Play and the Isle of Man Basketball Association
- A pop-up Acti-Tots play zone from Moonbug Hub
- Free 30-minute sauna sessions, hosted by Green Creek Sauna
The day was a great opportunity for the public to inspect all the nooks and crannies of the fantastic building, try a new sport or meet up with friends and relax in the sun.
Chairman of Braddan Commissioners, Neal Mellon and Commissioner Peter Scott were pressed into action judging and presenting prizes for the running races which were well received by parents and kids alike. Meanwhile Commissioner Dan Stevenson was in charge of directing the public and ticketing for the Dome Immersive Experience, the 360 degree cinema show, featuring everything from Diving with Sharks to the TT races.
Reflecting on the day, Chairman, Neal Mellon commented “It’s been great to see The Roundhouse buzzing with life, this was our vision for our community centre all along. I’m really proud of our staff for organising another successful day and I hope that we can build on today for future community events”.
